The Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, with support from the United Nations Development Programme Ghana, has inaugurated the National Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction Steering Committee.
The Committee forms part of activities supporting Ghana’s preparedness for implementation of the BBNJ Agreement and the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction.
It is expected to provide strategic direction, coordination and oversight for the implementation of related activities.
The initiative also supports stronger institutional collaboration, sustainable ocean governance and Ghana’s readiness to meet its obligations under the BBNJ framework.
The inauguration represents an important contribution to Ghana’s efforts to strengthen marine environmental governance and advance a sustainable Blue Economy.
