The Environment Directorate provides technical expertise and guidance for the development of policies, plans, regulations, standards, programmes and projects within the environmental sub-sector.
Its work supports environmental protection, sustainable resource management, climate action, biodiversity conservation, environmental governance and the implementation of Ghana’s international environmental obligations.
Key Areas of Work
Climate Change
Supports policy formulation, programme implementation and national and international engagement on climate change.
Biodiversity and Biosafety Conservation
Supports biodiversity policy development, reporting under international conventions and capacity development for biodiversity conservation.
Marine and Water Resources Protection
Supports policy development, planning, awareness creation and research relating to the protection and sustainable management of marine and water resources.
Environmental Coordination and Governance
Supports coordination of environmental agreements, participation in international processes and implementation of environmental governance obligations.
Chemicals and Waste Management
Supports policy development, reporting, institutional capacity development and international engagement relating to chemicals and waste management.
