About this programme

Overview

The Long-term Europe–Africa Water-Energy-Food Nexus Research Programme (LEAWEF Nexus) is a multilateral research-funding partnership involving research funding institutions from Africa and Europe.

The Programme is designed to support collaborative research addressing the interconnected challenges associated with water, energy and food systems.

Programme Objective

The Programme seeks to strengthen international research collaboration and support research capable of generating practical and evidence-based responses to interconnected water, energy and food challenges.

Multilateral Research Funding

Participating funding institutions jointly support transnational research consortia through agreed research calls.

Under the funding model, participating organisations support eligible researchers and institutions within their respective countries while contributing to a common international research programme.

Ghana’s Participation

The Ministry has been engaged in processes relating to Ghana’s participation in the Programme.

Discussions have also been initiated with the Ghana National Research Fund regarding potential support for Ghana’s participation and associated research activities.

Water-Energy-Food Nexus

The water-energy-food nexus recognises that water, energy and food systems are closely interconnected.

Research under the Programme is therefore intended to improve understanding of these relationships and support integrated approaches to sustainable development.

Expected Contribution

Ghana’s participation would strengthen international research collaboration and contribute to the development of solutions addressing water security, sustainable energy and food-system resilience.
