Programme Overview

About this programme

The Circular Economy Programme supports the Ministry’s efforts to promote more sustainable patterns of production and consumption through improved resource efficiency, waste reduction, recovery, recycling and the productive reuse of materials.

The programme provides an institutional platform for advancing circular economy principles across relevant sectors while strengthening coordination among Government institutions, industry, research organisations, development partners and other stakeholders.

Programme Objective

The programme seeks to support Ghana’s transition from predominantly linear patterns of resource use towards systems that retain the value of products, materials and resources for as long as practicable.

This includes measures aimed at reducing waste generation, improving resource productivity and supporting environmentally sound recovery, reuse and recycling.

reuse, repair, recovery and recycling;

Policy and Institutional Coordination

The transition towards a circular economy requires coordinated action across public institutions, industry, academia, research organisations, civil society and development partners.

The Ministry provides policy leadership within its mandate and works with relevant institutions to promote coherent approaches to environmental sustainability, resource management, science, technology and innovation.

Research, Technology and Innovation

Science, technology and innovation are important to the development of circular production systems, improved recycling technologies, sustainable materials, resource recovery and new approaches to waste reduction.

The programme therefore provides opportunities for collaboration between environmental policy, scientific research, technological development and industry.
