Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed

Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (born 14 December 1974) is a Ghanaian politician and the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central in the Northern Region. He previously served as MP for Nanton and held key government positions, including Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations and Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry under HE. John Mahama’s administration.

He attended Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) and trained as a teacher at Tamale College of Education (TACE). He holds a Master’s degree in Development Planning from KNUST and another in International Relations and Diplomacy from the University of Ghana. He began his political career as Deputy National Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in 2009. He was elected MP for Nanton in 2012, lost re-election in 2016, but successfully contested the Tamale Central seat in 2020, securing re-election in 2024 on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). In Parliament, he serves on the Public Accounts Committee and the Trade and Industry Committee.

In 2013, HE President John Mahama appointed him Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations, later transitioning to the Trade and Industry Ministry under Ekwow Spio-Garbrah until 2017. His career reflects a strong commitment to public service, youth empowerment, and national development.
