The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, paid a working visit to the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST) on Monday, July 13, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and advance the Government’s environmental, scientific, and technological development agenda.

During the visit, the Ministry presented a comprehensive report outlining its key achievements, ongoing initiatives, and strategic interventions in the areas of environmental management, climate action, scientific research, technology development, and innovation.

The presentation highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to address pressing environmental challenges while leveraging science, technology, and innovation to support sustainable national development. It also provided an overview of ongoing programmes and initiatives aimed at strengthening environmental governance, promoting scientific research, advancing technological innovation, and enhancing Ghana’s capacity to respond effectively to emerging environmental and developmental challenges.

The engagement further focused on critical sector requirements and strategic priorities necessary to accelerate the implementation of the Ministry’s mandate. Discussions centred on the support, resources, institutional capacity, and policy interventions required to enhance the Ministry’s effectiveness and enable it to make a greater contribution to Ghana’s socio-economic transformation.

The working visit provided an important platform for the Vice President and the Ministry’s leadership to engage on the opportunities and challenges confronting the sector and to identify areas requiring strengthened coordination and strategic attention.

The visit underscores the Government’s commitment to positioning environmental sustainability, science, technology, and innovation as critical pillars of national development. It also reinforces the importance of strengthening the institutional and operational capacity of MEST to deliver on its mandate and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s sustainable and inclusive development.
