MESTI Minister-Designate Prepares for Vetting
The Minister-Designate for MESTI, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie will appear before the Appointment Committee of Parliament tomorrow at 10:00 am for vetting.
Dr. Kwaku Afriyie is a member of parliament for the Sefwi-Waiwso.
He is a Medical Doctor by profession. He obtained an MB CBH from the University of Ghana Medical School, a Master of Public Health from Tulane University, New Orleans, U.S.A, and a Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and he also went to St. Augustine’s College.
Dr. Afriyie entered active politics when he served as Minister of Health from 2001-2005. He has also served as the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Western Regional Minister, and Minister of State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) at various stages of his political career.
As a former Minister of Health, Dr. Afriyie led the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme, from concept, through legislation, to implementation. He also served as a member of the National Development Planning Commission, member of cabinet sub-committee on Cocoa Affairs, member of the National AIDS Commission, as well as former chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana. Kwaku Afryie was the Managing Director of Afriyie Farms from 1990 to 2016 and the Managing Director of Greenshield Hospital from 1994 to 2014.
Dr. Kwaku Afriyie is married to Patience Adolley Bulley Afriyie with three children.
