Empowering Ghanaian Plastic Manufacturers

Press Release:

Date: August 29, 2023

Location: Accra, Ghana – The Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI) has taken a significant stride towards addressing the pressing challenge of plastic waste in Ghana, focusing specifically on orphan plastics. Collaborating closely with the Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association (GPMA), MESTI is thrilled to announce its provision of essential capacity-building support to twenty meticulously chosen applicants from a pool of forty-two plastic manufacturing companies operating across the country.

Under the dedicated leadership of the Honourable Minister of MESTI, the Ministry has wholeheartedly committed itself to uncovering sustainable solutions for the plastic waste crisis. This commitment is driven by the recognition of the detrimental consequences the issue poses to both the environment and local communities. Drawing inspiration from this unwavering dedication, MESTI, in partnership with GPMA, is spearheading a transformative initiative.

This initiative aims to equip the selected participants with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to adopt environmentally responsible practices, reduce plastic waste generation, and innovate within the plastic manufacturing sector.

By fostering a collaborative environment between governmental bodies, industry stakeholders, and manufacturers, MESTI and GPMA are fostering a holistic approach that promotes a greener and cleaner Ghana.

The twenty chosen participants represent a diverse array of plastic manufacturing companies, each demonstrating a genuine commitment to change. These companies will benefit from a tailored capacity-building program encompassing workshops, training sessions, and access to cutting-edge technologies that can drive the shift toward sustainable practices.

As MESTI and GPMA join forces on this commendable journey, the ultimate goal is not only to enhance the capabilities of these manufacturers but also to establish a ripple effect across the entire industry. By nurturing innovation, sustainability, and responsibility, this collaboration aspires to reshape Ghana’s plastic manufacturing landscape for the better.
