Chinese Recycling Giant Explores Partnership with Ghana for Circular Economy Advancement

A high-level delegation from Zhefu Holding Group Company Limited, China’s largest recycling company, led by CEO Li Jie and Nana Yaw Konadu of Electro Recycling Ghana Ltd, paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie.
The delegation, which included Business Advisor Augustina Adongo from ERG Ltd, aimed to explore opportunities for collaboration in establishing a cutting-edge recycling plant in Ghana for e-Waste and industrial waste.
In his welcoming address, Honourable Minister Dr. Kwaku Afriyie expresse d his commitment to advancing the circular economy in Ghana, emphasizing the comprehensive need to address electronic waste. He welcomed the idea of a strategic partnership between the Chinese recycling giant and a local company, foreseeing job creation and value chain development.
Minister Afriyie assured the delegation of MESTI’s support, promising assistance in garnering resources for the industrial hub set to be established. He pledged to facilitate collaborations within the subregion, advocating for the importance of building technical capacity to address Ghana’s environmental challenges.
The delegation extended an invitation to the Honourable Minister for a site inspection of their recycling facility in China. Dr. Kwaku Afriyie welcomed the proposal, pending an official consideration for the trip.
Present at the meeting were Dr. Patrick Nomo (Chief Director of MESTI), Ms. Lydia Essuah (Director PPME of MESTI), Ms. Gloria Holm-Graves (PRO of MESTI), and a representative from the E-waste Unit of the EPA.
The meeting concluded with fruitful discussions, highlighting a positive outlook for 2024 as both parties work towards enhancing Ghana’s circular economy through MESTI.
