STI Roadmap Task Team on SDGs Inaugurated
The Minister for MESTI, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng has inaugurated a 14 member Task Team for the development of Ghana’s Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Roadmap for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to the Minister, the role of STI in economic and social progress requires “ appropriate infrastructure, resources, and capabilities to produce new inventions as well as the capacity of individuals, communities, and companies to apply and absorb them.”
He noted that “ it is only by understanding and supporting the whole process of technological and innovative development, diffusion and readiness of its final recipients to accept, own and implement change that we can strive to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth.”
Ghana is among 5 countries selected by the United Nations to participate in the Pilot Programme of preparing a national STI strategy for the attainment of the SDGs. The rest are Kenya, Ethiopia, Serbia, and India.
Dr. Abdourahamane Diallo, UNESCO Country Director said the roadmaps will be “the policy-making tool that will align the SDGs plans with the actions undertaken in the field of science, technology, and innovation.”
