MESTI MINISTER DISTRIBUTES TRICYCLES AND OTHER EQUIPMENT TO PLASTIC WASTE COLLECTORS
MESTI Minister Dr. Kwaku Afriyie (MP) has called for greater collaboration from corporate and private enterprises in efforts towards plastic waste management in the country.
He presented 20 new tricycles, 1,060 gloves, 60 waste picking tools and Overall with reflectors to Pure Water Waste Collectors Association (PWWCA) received from Nestlé Ghana Limited in Accra yesterday, 9th September, 2021.
Dr. Afriyie expressed concern about medical health hazards posed by plastic waste and and urged the public to segregate plastic waste from other forms of waste generated.
The donation, which forms part of a partnership signed in 2019 between Nestle and PWWCA, is to empower the Association to collect more plastics for recycling and rid the country off the plastic menace.
Managing Director of Nestlé Ghana, Mr. Georgios Badaro noted that finding sustainable solutions to plastic waste required continued effort and strategic partnerships.
He therefore pledged Nestlé Ghana’s support to government in improving collection and recycling of plastic waste as it will help waste collectors economically while helping to protect the environment.
President of the Pure Water Waste Collectors Association, Mr. Elvis Oppong expressed gratitude to Nestlé and MESTI and reiterated the association’s commitment to collecting and recycling more plastic waste to save the environment.
So far the partnership has supported the association with 40 tricycles sinceit’s inception in 2019.
