The incoming Minister for MESTI, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie has assumed office this morning following his appointment and swearing-in over the weekend by H.E. President Nana Akufo-Addo.
In a brief meeting with Management, Dr. Afriyie said “this sector permeates all sectors and it’s the “fulcrum around which the economy of the nation evolves.” He pledged to work to uplift the image of this Ministry and bring it to the fore, adding that “I cannot do it alone, I will need everybody’s help!”
Welcoming the Minister, Mrs. Cynthia Asare Badiako, the Chief Director for MESTI said Management and Staff were prepared to work as a team under his guidance to move the Ministry forward.
Dr. Kwaku Afriyie is a Medical Doctor by profession and has previously served as Minister of the Ministries of Health, Lands and Natural Resources, Western Regional Minister, and Minister of State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) at various stages of his political career.
As a former Minister of Health from 2001 to 2005, Dr. Afriyie led the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme, from concept, through legislation, to implementation.
