UNESCO Representatives Paid Courtesy Visit to Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for MEST

On 12th March 2025, representatives from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Minister for the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MEST), Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP).

The meeting served as an important platform for discussions on key areas of mutual interest, including the ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining, commonly known as Galamsey, which continued to pose significant challenges to the environment and the socio-economic well-being of the country. The discussions also focused on strengthening Ghana’s research institutions to drive innovation and research excellence, as well as advancing technological development to ensure sustainable growth and improve the quality of life for Ghanaians.

Dr. Murtala Muhammed emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing these challenges through collaborative efforts with international partners like UNESCO. He also highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives to modernize and promote technological advancement, which were crucial for Ghana’s future development.

UNESCO reaffirmed its support for Ghana’s efforts in these critical areas, underscoring the importance of global cooperation in tackling issues that had far-reaching implications for sustainable development. The engagement further solidified UNESCO’s dedication to partnering with Ghana to enhance its research capacities, address environmental challenges, and promote innovation and technological advancement.
