Hon. Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed Embarked on Familiarization Visit to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and Its Institutes
On Tuesday, 18th February 2025, The Honorable Minister for the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology (MEST), Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP), embarked on a significant familiarization visit to the headquarters of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). This visit was part of the Minister’s commitment to engaging with key research institutions under the Ministry and gaining a deeper understanding of their vital contributions to national development.
During the visit, the Minister toured several specialized institutes under CSIR, including the Water Research Institute (WRI) and the Food Research Institute (FRI). At the Water Research Institute, discussions centered around ongoing research aimed at tackling critical water resource management issues and developing solutions for the sustainable rearing of fish. The Minister observed the processes involved in rearing catfish at the CSIR Water Research Institute and was briefed on various technologies and strategies that had been tested to improve water availability and quality, particularly in rural areas.
At the Food Research Institute, the Minister explored innovations and research projects that focused on enhancing food security, improving agricultural productivity, and developing sustainable food systems. He was particularly impressed by the work being done to address challenges in the agricultural sector, including the impacts of climate change, and emphasized the importance of translating research findings into practical solutions for farmers.
The Minister also took the opportunity to engage with the leadership and researchers at CSIR, discussing potential collaborations between the Ministry and research institutions to advance scientific innovation in areas such as water, agriculture, technology, and environmental sustainability. He praised the dedicated efforts of CSIR staff and emphasized the government’s support for enhancing the capacity of research institutions to address the pressing challenges facing the country.
Hon. Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the Ministry continued to prioritize and support scientific research that could lead to real, impactful solutions for national development. He pledged to work closely with CSIR and other stakeholders to foster a thriving research ecosystem that would contribute to the country’s sustainable growth.
