Youth-Focused NGO, Banyani, Engaged MEST Minister on Collaborative Environmental and Youth Empowerment Initiatives
On Tuesday, 29th July 2025, the leadership of Banyani, a youth-centered non-governmental organization, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP), at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra.
The visit formed part of Banyani’s ongoing efforts to build strategic partnerships with key government institutions to amplify youth engagement in national development, particularly in the areas of environmental sustainability and climate action. The delegation used the occasion to introduce the organization’s mission, core values, and flagship initiatives focused on environmental education, youth-led advocacy, and community-based projects.
During the meeting, the Banyani team shared insights into their ongoing programmes, which include awareness campaigns on climate change, tree-planting projects, clean-up exercises, and capacity-building workshops for young environmental leaders. The delegation emphasized the crucial role of youth in shaping Ghana’s environmental future and expressed a strong desire to collaborate with the Ministry in advancing the government’s sustainability agenda.
Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed warmly received the team and commended their proactive efforts to mobilize young people as change agents. He acknowledged the importance of youth participation in environmental governance and policy implementation and highlighted the Ministry’s interest in working with credible youth-led organizations to drive innovation, education, and behavioral change at the community level.
The Minister encouraged the leadership of Banyani to submit a comprehensive proposal outlining their key programmes, targeted beneficiaries, and potential areas for collaboration. He assured them of the Ministry’s openness to meaningful partnerships that align with its strategic vision.
The engagement concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation between MEST and Banyani. Both parties expressed optimism about future collaboration that would leverage youth energy and innovation to advance environmental sustainability and national development.
