UNESCO Ghana Secretary-General Paid Courtesy Visit to MEST Minister
On Tuesday, 29th July 2025, Dr. Osman Tahidu Damba, Secretary-General of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP), at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra.
Dr. Damba congratulated the Minister on his appointment and commended him for his longstanding contributions to national development. He also briefed the Minister on ongoing projects being implemented in partnership with UNESCO and highlighted opportunities for deepening collaboration.
He acknowledged the Ministry’s vital role in supporting UNESCO’s mandate, particularly through its active participation in science, technology, and environmental programmes. He further emphasized the importance of building stronger institutional ties to advance Ghana’s sustainable development goals.
In response, Hon. Dr. Murtala Muhammed expressed appreciation for the visit and thanked the Ghana Commission for UNESCO for its continued support and collaboration. He assured the delegation of the Ministry’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with UNESCO and reaffirmed his interest in expanding cooperation across shared areas of focus.
The Minister requested the submission of a comprehensive proposal from the Commission to guide future engagements and ensure that joint initiatives are aligned with national priorities.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment to strengthen cooperation between the Ministry and the Ghana Commission for UNESCO in support of science, education, and environmental sustainability.
