President John Dramani Mahama has sworn Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings into office as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, formally marking the beginning of her tenure at the Ministry.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Jubilee House on Saturday, 29 August 2026, following her approval by Parliament.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings took the Oath of Allegiance, Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy as part of the constitutional process for assuming ministerial office.
Presidential Charge
During the ceremony, President Mahama underscored the important responsibility of the Ministry in protecting Ghana’s natural resources while advancing science, technology and innovation for national development.
The President urged the Minister to strengthen environmental regulation, intensify efforts to address illegal mining and promote the application of scientific research and innovation to Ghana’s development challenges.
He also highlighted the importance of innovation in areas including agriculture, healthcare, energy, climate resilience and manufacturing.
Environment and Public Health
President Mahama noted the close relationship between environmental protection and public health, stressing that environmental degradation, polluted water bodies, unsafe air and poor sanitation ultimately affect the health and wellbeing of citizens.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings’ professional background in medicine provides an additional perspective on the relationship between environmental sustainability and human health.
A New Chapter for MEST
The assumption of office by Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings marks a new chapter in the leadership of the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.
Under her leadership, the Ministry will continue to advance Government’s agenda for environmental sustainability, scientific development, technological innovation and responsible management of Ghana’s natural resources.
The Ministry remains committed to working with its Directorates, Agencies, research institutions, development partners, industry, academia and other stakeholders to translate science, technology and environmental policy into measurable national development outcomes.
