Parliament has approved the nomination of Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings for appointment as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, following her vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, 27 August 2026.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings was nominated by the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, to lead the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology as part of changes to the Government’s ministerial team.
Her nomination was subsequently referred to Parliament for consideration in accordance with the constitutional process governing ministerial appointments.
During her appearance before the Appointments Committee, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings addressed a range of issues relating to the Ministry’s mandate, including environmental protection, illegal mining, scientific research, technological development, climate action and the commercialisation of research and innovation.
She emphasised the importance of stronger coordination among Ministries, Departments and Agencies in addressing environmental challenges, particularly illegal mining and its effects on the environment and public health.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings also highlighted the need to strengthen Ghana’s scientific research institutions, improve conditions for scientists and researchers, and promote closer collaboration between research institutions, industry and government to support the practical application and commercialisation of scientific innovation.
Her approval by Parliament represents an important step towards assuming responsibility for the Ministry’s environment, science and technology portfolio.
The Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology looks forward to working under her leadership to advance national priorities in environmental sustainability, scientific research, innovation and technological development.
