Discussions focused on the need to promote environmental awareness and conservation practices among young people, particularly through tree-planting initiatives in schools. The initiative is expected to encourage children to appreciate the importance of forests, develop a sense of environmental responsibility and become active participants in protecting the country’s natural resources.

The use of technology in forest monitoring also featured prominently in the discussions, with particular emphasis on leveraging drone technology to monitor activities within the forest, identify areas of destruction and support efforts to prevent further degradation.

In response to the concerns raised, the Minister proposed the organisation of a stakeholder forum to bring together relevant institutions, environmental experts and other key stakeholders to deliberate on the challenges facing the Atiwa Forest and develop practical, coordinated and sustainable solutions.

The proposed forum is expected to provide a platform for stronger institutional collaboration, knowledge-sharing and the identification of effective strategies to enhance forest protection and management.

The engagement underscores the Ministry’s commitment to promoting environmental sustainability through stakeholder engagement, scientific innovation and the adoption of practical conservation measures.

It also highlights the importance of collective responsibility in protecting Ghana’s forest resources for present and future generations.
