Continuing her familiarisation visits to agencies under the Ministry, the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Hon. Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, on Friday, 25th September 2026, visited the head office of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) in Accra.
The visit gave the Minister the opportunity to introduce herself to the management and staff of the Authority, receive a briefing on its mandate, operations and challenges, and discuss priorities for strengthening collaboration between the Ministry and the EPA in advancing Ghana’s environmental protection agenda.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings commended the Authority for managing a heavy workload, but charged management to do more in the areas of enforcement, prosecutions, transparency and public accountability.
Key Highlights at the EPA:
Fair and Transparent Enforcement: The Minister urged the EPA to apply environmental laws uniformly to all persons and organisations, cautioning that perceptions of selective enforcement undermine public trust and weaken efforts to protect the environment.
Openness and Public Accountability: Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings called on the Authority to make information on its activities, achievements, challenges and enforcement actions readily accessible to the public, stressing that greater openness is key to restoring confidence in the institution.
Citizen Participation and Public Education: Reminding management that protecting the environment requires the active participation of citizens alongside effective regulation, the Minister commended the EPA’s public education drive and encouraged closer collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), as well as intensified engagement in schools and on social media.

The visit to the EPA follows the Minister’s engagements at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the E-Waste Fund Secretariat, as part of planned engagements across MEST departments and agencies. The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s support for the Authority in fulfilling its mandate effectively.
