The Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Hon. Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has held separate engagements with the Ambassador of France to Ghana, H.E. Diarra Dime-Labille, and Joshua Amponsem, Co-Director of the Youth Climate Justice Fund initiative, and his team, to discuss environmental sustainability, climate action and opportunities for collaboration.
The engagements, held on Monday, 12th October 2026, formed part of the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen partnerships with diplomatic missions and stakeholders to advance Ghana’s environmental protection, climate resilience and sustainable development priorities.
France
The Ambassador of France to Ghana, H.E. Diarra Dime-Labille, paid a courtesy call on the Minister to congratulate her on her appointment and explore opportunities to deepen cooperation between Ghana and France in environmental protection and sustainability.
Discussions focused on restoring Ghana’s oceans and coastline, addressing plastic pollution, tackling illegal small-scale mining, commonly known as galamsey, and protecting biodiversity. The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to consider areas of mutual interest in addressing pressing environmental challenges and promoting the sustainable management and conservation of Ghana’s natural resources.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening international partnerships to support efforts aimed at protecting marine and coastal ecosystems, reducing pollution, preserving biodiversity and promoting responsible environmental practices. Such cooperation remains important in developing sustainable approaches to environmental management and safeguarding natural resources for future generations.
Youth Climate Justice Fund Initiative
The Minister also met with Joshua Amponsem, Co-Director of the Youth Climate Justice Fund initiative, and his team for discussions on youth development, environmental protection and climate action.

The meeting centred on the future of young people and the important role they can play in addressing environmental challenges and advancing climate action. Discussions highlighted the need to create opportunities for young people to participate meaningfully in environmental initiatives and contribute to developing solutions that respond to the challenges facing their communities and future generations.
Joshua Amponsem and his team also invited the Minister to participate in their upcoming programmes, which aim to promote youth engagement and raise awareness of environmental and climate issues.

The engagement provided an opportunity to explore potential areas of collaboration between the Ministry and youth-focused climate initiatives, particularly in empowering young people to take an active role in environmental sustainability and climate justice.
Strengthening Partnerships for Sustainability
The two engagements reflect the Ministry’s commitment to building strategic partnerships with international partners, civil society and youth-focused initiatives to address environmental challenges.
Through collaboration, knowledge-sharing and increased stakeholder participation, the Ministry continues to pursue opportunities to strengthen environmental protection, advance climate action and promote a sustainable future for Ghana.
