The Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST), in collaboration with the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA), held a session of the MEST Visibility Webinar Series on the theme “Nuclear Technology for a Safer and Sustainable Ghana: The Role of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority.”
The webinar formed part of the Ministry’s ongoing effort to improve public understanding of the work of its agencies and highlight the contribution of science, technology and regulatory institutions to Ghana’s national development.
Keynote address
The keynote address was delivered by Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), Acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
The session also featured Prof. Francis Otoo, Director General of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority, who delivered the welcome remarks.
Technical presentation
The technical presentation was delivered by Prof. Rex Gyeabour Abrefah, Acting Director of the Nuclear Installations Directorate.
The presentation focused on the importance of nuclear technology, the role of effective regulation, and the responsibility of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority in ensuring that nuclear and radiation-related activities are undertaken safely and responsibly.
Moderation
The webinar was moderated by Emily Kanyir Nyuor, Acting Head of International Relations and Public Affairs.
The engagement provided an opportunity to increase public awareness of nuclear regulation in Ghana and to demonstrate how regulatory oversight supports the safe application of nuclear science and technology.
