The Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, on Friday, 16th October 2026, represented the President of the Republic of Ghana at the CSIR Innovation Fair 2026, held at Efua Sutherland Park in Accra.

Delivering the President’s message at the event, Dr. Zanetor underscored the importance of science, technology and innovation (STI) in driving Ghana’s economic transformation and advancing national development.

She highlighted the strategic role of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in generating scientific knowledge, developing innovative solutions and supporting efforts to address the country’s development challenges.

She emphasised the need to strengthen the relationship between research institutions and industry to ensure that scientific discoveries are translated into practical applications that benefit society. She noted that research must extend beyond laboratories to create opportunities for businesses, stimulate industrial growth, generate employment and improve the livelihoods of Ghanaians.

The Minister’s participation in the fair reflected the government’s recognition of science, technology and innovation as important pillars for building a productive, competitive and sustainable economy.

The Director-General of CSIR, Prof. Paul Bosu, also delivered an address at the event, highlighting the role of the Council in promoting scientific research and innovation for national development. His address formed part of the fair’s broader focus on showcasing the contribution of research institutions to Ghana’s development priorities and strengthening the link between scientific discoveries and their practical application.

The three-day fair is being held under the theme, “From Research to the Market: The Role of CSIR in Driving Innovation for National Development.” It seeks to showcase research findings, innovative technologies and locally developed solutions with the potential to address societal needs and support economic growth.

The event provides a platform for researchers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, industry players and other stakeholders to interact, exchange ideas and explore opportunities for collaboration. It also highlights the importance of investment in research and development, technology transfer and the commercialisation of scientific discoveries to ensure that locally generated knowledge contributes meaningfully to national progress.

Through exhibitions and stakeholder engagements, the fair offers an opportunity to demonstrate how scientific research can inform policy, support industrial development and provide solutions to challenges across various sectors of the economy.

The CSIR Innovation Fair 2026 reinforces the importance of building stronger partnerships among government, academia, research institutions and the private sector to accelerate innovation and ensure that research outcomes deliver tangible benefits to citizens.

The fair also aligns with the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology’s broader mandate to promote science, technology and innovation as drivers of sustainable development, industrial advancement and economic transformation in Ghana.
