Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) Pays Courtesy Call on Minister for Environment, Science and Technology

On Monday, 12th May 2025, the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP), received a delegation from the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra.

The visit formed part of FARA’s ongoing stakeholder engagement efforts aimed at strengthening collaboration with national governments and key institutions in the areas of agricultural innovation, science, and sustainability. During the meeting, the FARA team provided an overview of their strategic programmes and upcoming activities, which are focused on enhancing agricultural research and development across the African continent. These include initiatives that promote climate-smart agriculture, capacity building for young scientists, digital innovation in agri-food systems, and stronger partnerships among African research institutions.

The Honourable Minister warmly welcomed the delegation and commended FARA for its critical role in advancing science, technology, and innovation in agriculture—key drivers for food security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability. He expressed appreciation for FARA’s efforts and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting science-driven agricultural development.

Dr. Murtala Muhammed further highlighted the importance of aligning research with policy to ensure long-term impact, and expressed strong interest in future collaboration between MEST and FARA, particularly in areas such as climate resilience, biotechnology, and indigenous knowledge systems.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation and leverage collective expertise to address pressing challenges in Africa’s agricultural landscape.
