Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Handed Over Tricycles and Other Items to Plastic Waste Pickers

On Wednesday, 1st October 2025, the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural ResourcesHon. Alhaji Yusif Sulemana, on behalf of the Ministry, handed over ten (10) tricycles and other waste collection items received from Nestlé Ghana Limited to the Association of Plastic Waste Pickers at the premises of the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST) in Accra.

The donation, which formed part of Nestlé Ghana’s Environmental Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, was aimed at supporting national waste management efforts and improving the working conditions of informal waste collectors across the country.

In his remarks, Hon. Sulemana expressed appreciation to Nestlé Ghana for its partnership and commitment to environmental stewardship. He noted that the gesture contributed to strengthening the operations of the Plastic Waste Pickers Association, whose members played a crucial role in maintaining environmental cleanliness and advancing Ghana’s circular economy goals.

“This gesture from Nestlé Ghana was not just a donation but a meaningful investment in our collective effort to keep Ghana clean, green, and sustainable. The work of plastic waste pickers remained vital in ensuring that recyclable materials were properly collected and reintegrated into the economy. We were grateful for this collaboration,”

Hon. Sulemana said.

He further encouraged the beneficiaries to use the tricycles and other items effectively to enhance their efficiency, productivity, and income while contributing to the national goal of promoting environmental sustainability.

A representative from Nestlé Ghana also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting government-led waste management initiatives through partnerships and innovation.

“We believed that collaborations such as this were essential in creating lasting environmental impact. By supporting waste pickers, we empowered the individuals at the heart of Ghana’s recycling ecosystem,”

the representative stated.

The President of the Association of Plastic Waste Pickers expressed gratitude to the Ministry, Nestlé Ghana, and other stakeholders for their continued support. He assured that the donated tricycles and materials would be used judiciously to enhance their daily waste collection operations and promote a cleaner environment.

Officials from MEST, the Ministry of Lands and Natural ResourcesNestlé Ghana, and representatives from environmental NGOs and allied agencies were present at the handing-over ceremony.

The event underscored the government’s commitment to fostering public-private partnerships in addressing waste management challenges, promoting environmental sustainability, and driving Ghana’s transition towards a green and circular economy.
