Counseling Unit Provides Support to MEST Staff Following the Passing of Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed

On Thursday, October 9, 2025, the Counseling Unit of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service provided professional counseling and psychosocial support to staff of the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST).

The initiative was aimed at helping staff cope with the emotional and psychological impact following the tragic passing of the late Minister, Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. It provided a structured platform for staff to express their grief, share memories, and seek guidance from trained counseling professionals.

During the sessions, staff were offered confidential one-on-one and group counseling, which addressed the challenges of coping with loss, managing stress, and maintaining workplace productivity during this difficult period. The initiative also included strategies for emotional resilience, peer support, and self-care, ensuring that employees received holistic support for both personal and professional wellbeing.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to the mental health and wellbeing of all employees, emphasizing that such interventions are essential in fostering a supportive work environment. Staff expressed gratitude for the care and attention provided, acknowledging that the sessions helped them process their grief while remaining focused on their duties.

This initiative reflects MEST’s continued dedication to the welfare of its workforce, recognizing that the Ministry’s ability to achieve its mandate is closely linked to the health, morale, and resilience of its staff.
