WUSC Representatives Met with Honorable Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP) to Discuss Key Development Issues

On Monday, 17th March 2025, representatives from the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) paid a courtesy call on the Honorable Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP), Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.

The meeting, held at the Ministry’s office, served as an important platform for discussions on a wide range of critical issues affecting both environmental and economic sustainability in Ghana. Among the topics explored were the urgent need for biodiversity conservation and protection, as well as strategies for enhancing educational opportunities and empowering local communities.

The dialogue also focused on capacity-building initiatives for pharmaceutical companies, with an emphasis on improving local manufacturing capabilities and boosting the pharmaceutical sector’s competitiveness. Both sides recognized the importance of fostering innovation and providing opportunities for local industries to thrive.

Furthermore, the discussions touched on the growing significance of climate-smart agriculture, which sought to create more resilient and sustainable agricultural practices in response to climate change. WUSC and the Ministry underscored their shared commitment to finding solutions that would help farmers adapt to changing environmental conditions while ensuring food security.

One of the key concerns raised during the meeting was the persistent issue of illegal mining and its detrimental effects on the environment. The Minister and WUSC representatives explored collaborative efforts to combat illegal mining activities, emphasizing the importance of implementing stronger regulations and promoting responsible mining practices.

This meeting symbolized a continued commitment to collaboration between Ghana and international partners in addressing the country’s environmental and socio-economic challenges. Both parties expressed optimism about the potential for deeper cooperation in the coming years.
