Swiss Ambassador Paid Courtesy Call on MEST Minister
On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, Her Excellency Simone Giger, Ambassador of Switzerland to Ghana, paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP).

The visit was to officially congratulate the Honourable Minister on his recent appointment and to explore opportunities for enhanced collaboration between Ghana and Switzerland in the areas of environment, science, technology, and innovation.
During the meeting, discussions focused on several key areas of shared interest, including the environmental impact of illegal mining, the promotion of STEM education and research, coastal conservation, and support for afforestation initiatives aimed at addressing climate change and promoting sustainable ecosystems.

A major initiative that was highlighted during the discussions was the Ministry’s upcoming “Every Child, per Tree” policy, which was scheduled to be launched as part of activities to mark the 2025 World Environment Day celebrations. This policy aimed to actively involve schoolchildren in tree-planting exercises nationwide, fostering environmental stewardship among the youth and contributing to national afforestation targets.
Her Excellency Simone Giger commended the Ministry’s efforts in advancing environmental sustainability and pledged Switzerland’s readiness to collaborate on relevant projects and initiatives. The Honourable Minister expressed his appreciation for the Ambassador’s visit and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Switzerland in areas that promote environmental protection, scientific advancement, and sustainable development.
The visit concluded with a mutual understanding to deepen engagements in these key areas and to jointly pursue practical solutions to shared environmental challenges.
