Pure Earth Ghana Discusses Environmental Health Initiatives with MEST Minister, Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed

On the afternoon of February 24, 2025, the management of Pure Earth Ghana visited the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST), Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP), for an insightful discussion on environmental health initiatives and potential collaborations with the Ministry.

The conversation centered on a range of pressing environmental health issues affecting the country, including the growing challenges of e-waste, informal lead recycling, mercury contamination, and the adverse effects of illegal mining (Galamsey). These environmental concerns had far-reaching impacts, not only on the ecosystem but also on the health and safety of communities, particularly those in vulnerable areas.

Hon. Dr. Muhammed emphasized the need for greater collaboration between the Ministry and organizations like Pure Earth Ghana to address these issues. He particularly highlighted the importance of public sensitization and raising awareness about the harmful consequences of these environmental threats. He stressed that effective education and outreach were essential to ensure that citizens understood the risks involved and took the necessary steps to safeguard their health.

The Minister also noted the urgency of finding sustainable solutions to mitigate the environmental damage caused by these activities, calling for a more coordinated approach to protect both the environment and public health. Both parties expressed their commitment to working together in tackling these challenges, ensuring a safer and healthier future for the people of Ghana.
