One-Day Validation Workshop on the Project Implementation Manual for Establishing a Circular Economy Framework for the Plastics Sector in Ghana

The Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI), in collaboration with key stakeholders, organized a one-day validation workshop on Thursday, 18th September 2024, in Accra. The workshop aimed to review and finalize the Project Implementation Manual (PIM) for establishing a circular economy framework within the plastics sector in Ghana.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to transition towards sustainable waste management practices and reduce plastic pollution. By establishing a circular economy, the country seeks to minimize plastic waste, maximize resource efficiency, and create new economic opportunities through recycling and reusing plastics.

The workshop brought together representatives from various sectors, including policymakers, environmental experts, private sector players, civil society organizations, and development partners, to provide input and validate the PIM. Participants engaged in discussions on critical areas such as sustainable production, waste management systems, the role of innovation, and creating an enabling environment for the circular economy.

The finalized Project Implementation Manual will serve as a guiding document for implementing the circular economy framework, detailing the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders and the strategies for achieving the desired outcomes in the plastics sector.
