MESTI Minister Opens Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa and WAITRO Executive Board Meeting

Accra, Ghana, July 1, 2024

The Honorable Minister, Mrs. Ophelia Mensah Hayford (MP), Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI), officially inaugurated the Celebration of the Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa (DSRA) and the 94th Executive Board Meeting of the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations (WAITRO) in Accra.

Under the theme “Leveraging Science and Technology for Wealth Creation,” the DSRA celebration aims to highlight the critical role of scientific and technological innovations in fostering economic prosperity across Africa. The event underscores Ghana’s commitment to advancing scientific research and innovation as catalysts for socio-economic development.

Activities planned for the celebration include:

  • Technical Sessions: Engaging discussions and presentations on current trends and breakthroughs in science, technology, and innovation.
  • Free Training Sessions on CSIR Technologies: Providing participants with insights into technologies and innovations developed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), aimed at promoting knowledge transfer and capacity building.

The WAITRO Executive Board Meeting, coinciding with the DSRA celebration, brings together international delegates and experts from industrial and technological research organizations worldwide. This gathering serves as a platform for strategic discussions on global research collaboration, innovation partnerships, and sustainable development.

In her opening remarks, Minister Mrs. Ophelia Mensah Hayford emphasized Ghana’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for scientific research and innovation. She highlighted the importance of leveraging science and technology to drive wealth creation, improve livelihoods, and achieve sustainable development goals.

As Ghana hosts these prestigious events, MESTI reaffirms its dedication to promoting research excellence and technological advancement on the African continent. The Ministry encourages active participation from stakeholders across academia, industry, and government to harness the transformative power of science and technology for inclusive growth.
