MESTI Hosted Two-Day Workshop on Science, Technology, and Innovation Strategy in Accra
Accra, September 18, 2024 – Dr. Patrick Nomo, Chief Director of the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI), officially opened a two-day Consultative Workshop organized by the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI). Held at Alisa Hotel, North Ridge, Accra, this significant event focused on advancing the Science, Technology, and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA) 2034.
The workshop, themed “Supporting Africa’s Science Granting Councils to Effectively Develop and Implement the Science, Technology, and Innovation Strategy for Africa 2034,” was organized in partnership with the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS). It served as a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and capacity building to enhance the role of Science Granting Councils across Africa in driving scientific and technological innovation.
The primary objective of the workshop was to empower Africa’s Science Granting Councils to develop and implement STISA, which was pivotal for realizing the continent’s vision of sustainable growth and innovation by 2034. Participants engaged in productive discussions, shared experiences, and explored effective strategies to strengthen the role of science and technology in advancing economic development and societal well-being.
Through various sessions, attendees addressed critical topics such as policy formulation, capacity building, and the importance of stakeholder engagement in the science and technology sector. The event underscored MESTI’s dedication to fostering regional partnerships and building a robust scientific ecosystem across Africa.
