MEST Minister Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP) Tours SMEs

On March 4, 2025, the Honorable Minister for MEST, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP), conducted a comprehensive tour of key small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Greater Accra region. The visit was part of the “Establishing a Circular Economy Framework for the Plastic Sector in Ghana (CEF-PS) Project,” which aimed to improve plastic waste management and recycling systems while also creating significant employment opportunities.

Dr. Muhammed’s tour began at Coliba Waste Management in Adjen Kotoku, where he was impressed by the company’s sustainable waste management practices. The Minister highlighted that companies like Coliba not only contributed to a cleaner environment but also played a key role in creating jobs within the waste management and recycling sectors—an essential part of the government’s broader economic development agenda.

The Minister then visited City Waste Recycling in Teacher Mante, where he explored the innovative recycling technologies in use. Dr. Muhammed discussed how expanding recycling initiatives could provide more job opportunities, especially for youth and women, by creating new industries and sustainable livelihoods across the country.

The tour concluded at Maintenance and Sustainability Africa in Madina, where Dr. Muhammed observed the company’s sustainable industrial practices. The Minister emphasized the importance of SMEs in reducing environmental impact and creating skilled jobs in maintenance and sustainability sectors, which are vital for long-term economic growth.

The Minister’s visits reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the growth of SMEs, fostering innovation, and ensuring sustainable practices that contribute to job creation. Through initiatives like the CEF-PS Project, the government aimed to enhance the waste management sector while generating employment opportunities that would empower local communities and drive national development.
