MEST and NDPC Hosted Workshop on Mainstreaming Biodiversity into National Development Planning and Budgeting Processes
The Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST), in collaboration with the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), successfully organized an orientation workshop on mainstreaming biodiversity into national development planning and budgeting processes.
The workshop, which took place on Tuesday, 4th March 2025, at the CSIR-STEPRI, was designed to build the capacity of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in incorporating biodiversity considerations into their medium-term plans and budgets. The primary objective was to equip key stakeholders with the necessary tools and knowledge to ensure that biodiversity conservation and sustainable use were effectively integrated into national development strategies.
The workshop included presentations on the value of biodiversity, strategies for integration, and the role of MDAs in achieving national biodiversity targets. Participants engaged in discussions and practical exercises aimed at developing actionable plans for mainstreaming biodiversity into their respective organizational frameworks.
This initiative formed part of Ghana’s broader commitment to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 15, which seeks to protect, restore, and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.
MEST and NDPC continue to work closely with national stakeholders to ensure that biodiversity remains a key consideration in the country’s development agenda, contributing to a balanced and sustainable future for all.
