Hon. Ophelia Mensah Hayford (MP) Opens Meeting with International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Officials

On May 15, 2024, the President’s Representative at the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI), Hon. Ophelia Mensah Hayford (MP), officially opened a meeting with officials from the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG). This meeting was held ahead of the FIG conference scheduled to take place in Accra on Sunday, April 20, 2024.

The primary focus of the discussion was on innovative solutions for tackling plastic pollution in water bodies, as developed by the Federation. This crucial dialogue aimed to explore and implement effective strategies to address the growing concern of plastic waste in our water ecosystems. Plastic pollution poses a significant threat to aquatic life, public health, and the environment, making these discussions timely and critical.

Hon. Ophelia Mensah Hayford commended the Federation for their dedication to finding sustainable solutions and emphasized the government’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. She highlighted the importance of international collaboration in addressing environmental challenges and expressed confidence that the FIG conference would foster productive exchanges and actionable outcomes.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for MESTI officials and FIG representatives to share insights and best practices on survey methodologies, environmental monitoring, and the implementation of advanced technologies for environmental conservation. The collaborative efforts between MESTI and FIG aim to strengthen the capacity for environmental management and promote the adoption of innovative practices.

The upcoming FIG conference promises to be a significant event, bringing together experts, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders from around the world to discuss and advance these important initiatives. Participants will engage in workshops, panel discussions, and networking sessions focused on sustainable solutions for environmental issues, particularly plastic pollution.
