Hon. Minister Ophelia Mensah-Hayford Visits Foundry and Machine Tooling Centre at GAEC
Accra, Friday, July 26, 2024 – The Hon. Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI), Ophelia Mensah-Hayford, conducted a significant site visit today to the Foundry and Machine Tooling Centre at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) premises in Accra. This facility is being developed under the Ghana Cares (Obaatanpa) Project, showcasing the government’s commitment to advancing local manufacturing capabilities.
During her visit, Hon. Mensah-Hayford was accompanied by key officials including Chief Director Dr. Patrick Nomo; Mrs. Lydia Essuah, Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation (PPME); Mr. Kwamena Quaison, Director of Science and Technology (ST&I); Frank Van Lare, Director of Procurement; and Samuel Boakye Dampare, Director-General of GAEC, among other notable figures from the Ministry.
The team engaged with Foundry Engineers and Consultants who provided an update on the progress of work at the site. Key areas of focus included the Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Pattern Shop, the Machine Tooling Centre, the Two Tower Tanks, and the construction of a new canteen.
Hon. Mensah-Hayford expressed her satisfaction with the advancements made and underscored the importance of the Centre in boosting Ghana’s industrial capabilities. The Foundry and Machine Tooling Centre is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing local production and contributing to the country’s economic development under the Ghana Cares (Obaatanpa) Project.
