Hon. Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Engaged with ASASE Resilient and Sustainable Communities Foundation

The Hon. Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology (MEST), Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, on 28th February 2025, paid a familiarization visit to the ASASE Resilient and Sustainable Communities Foundation as part of his ongoing engagement with Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana. The visit was aimed at learning more about the Foundation’s operations and its innovative approach to environmental sustainability.

The ASASE Foundation, located in Gbawe, Accra, is a community-based initiative focused on the collection and recycling of Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) plastic waste. The project seeks to reduce plastic pollution and promote sustainable waste management practices within the local community.

During the visit, Dr. Muhammed expressed his strong support for the Foundation’s efforts in fostering a sustainable and environmentally conscious community. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government and local enterprises in addressing waste management challenges and promoting circular economy practices.

The Foundation’s work is crucial in light of Ghana’s ongoing commitment to managing plastic waste and encouraging recycling as a means of protecting the environment. Through its innovative recycling initiatives, ASASE not only contributed to the local economy but also played a key role in educating and empowering local communities on waste reduction, recycling, and environmental conservation.

Dr. Muhammed acknowledged the significant role of such projects in achieving the Ministry’s long-term environmental goals and assured the Foundation of MEST’s continued support in scaling its initiatives. He reiterated the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for SMEs and community-based projects to thrive and contribute to sustainable development.
