Hon. MESTI Minister, Ophelia Mensah-Hayford Completed Working Visit to GLRSSMP Sites
On Tuesday, 1st October 2024, the Honorable Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), Hon. Ophelia Mensah-Hayford, began her working visit to sites under the Ghana Landscape Restoration and Small-Scale Mining Project (GLRSSMP) in the Eastern, Ashanti, and Central Regions. The purpose of the visit was to assess the progress of project implementation and its impact on beneficiary agencies, communities, and focal points involved in the project.
The GLRSSMP is an initiative focused on ensuring environmental sustainability, protecting the well-being of local communities, and contributing to the overall success of landscape restoration and small-scale mining efforts. The project aims to rehabilitate degraded lands, regulate artisanal mining, and foster socio-economic growth in the affected areas.
Earlier in the day, the Hon. Minister held an interactive session with key beneficiary agencies, including the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Forestry Services Division (FSD), at the Kwahu-East District Assembly. The session allowed for discussions on the challenges and successes of the project as well as opportunities to enhance inter-agency collaboration.
Present at the meeting were the District Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Agyapong, officials from the Assembly, and the Eastern Regional Director of the EPA, Mr. Addo Okyere.
Later in the day, the Hon. Minister visited several project sites in Mpraeso, Demano, Aseseso, Hy3wohoden, and Dwerebease communities to witness the ongoing restoration efforts and engage with community members.
