Hon. MESTI Minister Continued Field Visit in Kwahu-West District
On Wednesday, 2nd October 2024, the Honorable Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI), Hon. Ophelia Mensah-Hayford, continued her working visit to various project sites under the Ghana Landscape Restoration and Small-Scale Mining Project (GLRSSMP). This visit was part of her regional tour aimed at assessing the progress and impact of the project in different communities.
During her visit to the Kwahu-West District, the Minister met with the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Yaw Owusu-Addo, and officials of the Assembly. In their discussions, they reviewed the ongoing efforts to restore degraded lands and promote sustainable agricultural practices in the region. The officials provided updates on the collaboration between local stakeholders, beneficiary communities, and the Assembly in advancing the objectives of the GLRSSMP, which included environmental conservation and fostering sustainable livelihoods.
After the meeting, Hon. Ophelia Mensah-Hayford visited farms in the Jejeti-Nkwanta area, where the project had been supporting farmers in restoring fertile land through reforestation and improved agricultural techniques. The Minister interacted with farmers, many of whom had benefitted from training and resources provided through the project, resulting in increased productivity and more sustainable land use.
The Minister expressed her satisfaction with the progress made in Kwahu-West, acknowledging that the collaborative efforts of the government, local authorities, and communities were contributing to environmental sustainability and enhanced agricultural productivity.
This visit emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the success of the GLRSSMP, which is focused on protecting the environment, supporting local economies, and regulating small-scale mining practices.
