Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed Hosts German Ambassador on Courtesy Visit
The Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP), Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MEST), recently hosted the German Ambassador to Ghana for an important courtesy visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and fostering collaborative efforts on key issues of mutual interest.
The primary objective of the visit was for the Ambassador to extend congratulations to the Minister on his recent appointment and engage in constructive discussions regarding shared challenges and opportunities. Among the critical topics covered were waste management, combating illegal mining (galamsey), and driving advancements in science and technology in Ghana.
The discussions focused on exploring viable solutions and identifying avenues for greater collaboration to address pressing environmental concerns. Both parties were particularly interested in promoting environmental sustainability through innovative waste management solutions and enhancing the fight against illegal mining activities, which had been a significant environmental and economic challenge in Ghana.
Additionally, the talks centered around advancing technological innovation, particularly in the fields of science and technology, to support sustainable development and help drive Ghana’s economic transformation. With the support of German expertise in environmental sustainability and technological development, the visit held great potential for fostering knowledge exchange, capacity building, and collaborative projects that could create long-lasting positive impacts in Ghana.
The two parties also explored opportunities to create synergies supporting responsible resource management, the adoption of green technologies, and the fostering of a circular economy to minimize environmental degradation and promote sustainable industrial growth in the country.
This visit served as a reminder of the importance of international partnerships in tackling global challenges and advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through continued dialogue and cooperation, Ghana and Germany hoped to chart a path toward a more sustainable and technologically advanced future for the benefit of their citizens and the global community.
