Ghana’s Delegation at the Africa Ministers Conference on Environment (AMCEN) in Abidjan
Ghana proudly participated in the recent Africa Ministers Conference on Environment (AMCEN), which was held in Abidjan with the theme “Raising Ambition to Combat Desertification.” This important conference brought together a diverse group of delegates from across the continent, all dedicated to addressing desertification and promoting sustainable land management.
Representing Ghana were Dr. Peter J. Dery, Director of Environment, and Mrs. Lydia Essuah, Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation (PPME). Their presence highlighted Ghana’s commitment to tackling environmental challenges and contributing to collective regional efforts.
The conference served as a platform for sharing knowledge, strategies, and innovations to combat the detrimental effects of desertification, which threaten ecological balance and livelihoods across Africa. Delegates engaged in in-depth discussions, exchanged best practices, and established new partnerships aimed at strengthening the continent’s efforts in environmental conservation and sustainable development.
Dr. Dery and Mrs. Essuah’s participation underscored Ghana’s dedication to enhancing its environmental policies and collaborating with fellow African nations to implement impactful solutions for desertification. Their contributions at the conference are expected to further support Ghana’s environmental strategies and bolster its role in both regional and global environmental initiatives.
The MESTI (Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation) remains committed to advancing environmental sustainability and addressing the challenges posed by desertification through active engagement in such pivotal forums and collaborations.
