Ghanaian Robotics Teams Excelled at 2025 Robofest World Championship

Ghana’s young innovators once again proved their excellence on the world stage. At the 2025 Robofest World Championship held in Michigan, USA, Ghanaian teams trained and mentored by leading national institutions delivered an outstanding performance across multiple competition categories.

The teams received training through the collaborative efforts of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research – Institute for Scientific and Technological Information (CSIR-INSTI), Mikrobot Academy, the Innovation Centre at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) College of Engineering, the Responsible AI Lab (RAIL) at KNUST, and the Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation. This effort reflected Ghana’s growing investment in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and youth capacity development.

Ghana was represented by seven teams who competed in the Unknown Mission Challenge (UMC), Game, Bottle Sumo, and Robo Parade categories. The results were remarkable:

Junior Division:

  • “Prime Coders” from Mikrobot Academy placed second in the UMC, one of the most technically demanding events.
  • Team Neo-Nexus received a Special Achievement Award in the Game category for their innovation, resilience, and team spirit.

Senior Division:

  • Our Lady of Grace Senior High School (SHS) placed third in the Game category and fourth in Bottle Sumo.
  • Apam SHS placed second in the Bottle Sumo Time Trial.
  • Right to Dream Academy received a Special Achievement Award in recognition of their performance and commitment to excellence.

These achievements were earned amidst intense global competition. Robofest 2025 brought together over 700 participants from 22 countries, representing nearly 100 teams. Ghana’s strong performance affirmed the country’s growing influence in global technology and innovation spaces, and highlighted the impact of national investments in STEM and robotics.

On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the winning teams presented their trophies to the Honourable Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation in Accra. The presentation served as a moment of national pride, recognizing the potential of Ghana’s future technology leaders.

The Minister congratulated the students, coaches, and supporting institutions, stating:

“These accomplishments are a testament to what our youth can achieve with the right support, training, and mentorship. Government remains committed to strengthening STEM education and creating more opportunities for innovation to thrive.”

Ghana’s performance at Robofest 2025 demonstrated the power of collaboration, mentorship, and youth innovation, and served as an inspiration to students across the country to pursue excellence in science and technology.
