Ghana Submits National Biodiversity Targets Aligned with Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework
The Environment Directorate of the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI) has officially submitted Ghana’s National Biodiversity Targets in alignment with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF). This submission is a crucial part of the review and update of Ghana’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP).
This significant milestone was preceded by a comprehensive 3-Day Technical Working Group Meeting held from July 29th to 31st, 2024, at the Aruba Hotel in Aburi. The meeting brought together a diverse group of stakeholders to provide valuable inputs and feedback on the National Biodiversity Targets.
The key objectives of the Technical Working Group Meeting included
- Facilitating a platform for stakeholders to voice their perspectives and contribute to the formulation of the National Biodiversity Targets, ensuring that the targets are inclusive and representative of various interests.
- Reviewing and integrating stakeholder feedback into the National Biodiversity Targets to ensure that they are comprehensive and effective in addressing Ghana’s biodiversity challenges and objectives.
- Ensuring that Ghana’s targets are aligned with the KM-GBF, which aims to enhance global biodiversity conservation efforts and address the pressing issues related to biodiversity loss.
