GAEC Director-General and IAEA Delegation Paid Courtesy Call on Hon. Minister for Environment, Science and Technology

On Tuesday, 15th April 2025, the Director-General of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC), Prof. Samuel Boakye Dampare, led a high-level delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to pay a courtesy call on the Honorable Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP).

The meeting focused on fostering greater collaboration between Ghana and the IAEA, with particular emphasis on strengthening the country’s research institutions. The discussions highlighted the need to promote the commercialization of research outputs to enhance Ghana’s scientific and technological capabilities and boost economic development.

A key topic addressed was the growing concern over illegal mining in Ghana. Both parties emphasized the importance of leveraging scientific research and technological solutions to effectively combat this issue.

Additionally, the Hon. Minister and the visiting delegation reaffirmed plans for an upcoming major international conference scheduled for October 2025. This conference is expected to bring together experts and stakeholders from around the world to discuss and explore advancements in nuclear science, environmental sustainability, and the responsible use of natural resources.

The visit underscored Ghana’s commitment to advancing its scientific and technological agenda and reinforced the country’s strategic partnership with the IAEA.
