Courtesy Call on Hon. MESTI Minister, Ophelia Mensah-Hayford

Accra, 24th July 2024 — Today, Hon. Ophelia Mensah-Hayford, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), received a courtesy call from esteemed officials representing the office of the Vice President of Tanzania and the National Carbon Market Office of Tanzania. The visit, part of a study tour in Ghana, focused on exploring collaboration opportunities and preparing for initiatives post-COP29 later this year.

The discussions centered on strategic preparations to enhance climate resilience and advance sustainable development goals. Key officials in attendance included Dr. Patrick Nomo, Chief Director of MESTI; Dr. Peter Dery, Director of Environment at MESTI; and Dr. Kingsley Krugu, Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), alongside other senior EPA officials.

During the meeting, Minister Ophelia Mensah-Hayford emphasized the importance of international cooperation in tackling global climate challenges. She highlighted Ghana’s commitment to leveraging partnerships and knowledge-sharing to foster climate adaptation strategies and promote environmental sustainability.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for both parties to exchange insights on best practices in carbon markets, environmental governance, and policy frameworks. It underscored the mutual interest in strengthening bilateral ties to achieve common climate goals and support initiatives that benefit both Ghana and Tanzania.

As discussions concluded on this productive day, Minister Mensah-Hayford expressed gratitude to the Tanzanian delegation for their visit and reiterated Ghana’s readiness to collaborate closely in advancing shared priorities on the global climate agenda.
