The Chief Director of the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI), Mr. Patrick Nomo, officially opened the 2024 Ghana Digital and Innovation Week (GDIW) on behalf of the Honorable Minister, Ophelia Mensah-Hayford, on 2nd October 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre. The event marked the start of a week-long gathering of innovators, policymakers, and stakeholders focused on advancing Ghana’s digital transformation.

This year’s theme, “Driving Ghana’s Digital Transformation through Innovation and Technology”, underscored the nation’s commitment to leveraging technology for economic growth and development. GDIW 2024 brought together participants from various sectors, including government, tech entrepreneurs, investors, industry experts, and academia, to discuss how digital innovation could support national development.

In his opening address, Mr. Patrick Nomo highlighted the crucial role of digital innovation in accelerating Ghana’s socio-economic progress. He emphasized that the government, through MESTI, had been actively creating policies to support technological advancement, foster innovation, and enhance digital literacy across the country. Mr. Nomo also noted the importance of strong public-private partnerships in driving the digital economy, particularly in key sectors like fintech, e-commerce, agriculture, and education.

The event featured various activities such as panel discussions, workshops, and exhibitions, where participants explored trends in areas such as artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, smart cities, and renewable energy. These sessions encouraged collaboration and provided insights into how technology could be harnessed to address national challenges.

One of the key highlights of the event was the technology exhibition, where Ghanaian innovators showcased their cutting-edge solutions. This included mobile applications, digital payment platforms, and tech-based services aimed at enhancing public and private sector efficiency. The exhibition also created opportunities for start-ups to connect with investors and secure funding for their ventures.

Mr. Nomo commended the organizing committee for their efforts in promoting innovation and called on participants to seize the opportunity to form partnerships and share ideas that would propel Ghana’s digital transformation agenda forward.

GDIW 2024 provided a platform for discussions on how digital tools could help solve challenges in various sectors, including health, education, agriculture, and governance, reinforcing Ghana’s vision of becoming a technology-driven economy.
