Brazilian Ambassador Paid Courtesy Call on Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation
On Monday, 5th May 2025, the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI), Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP), received Her Excellency Mariana Madeira, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Ghana, during a courtesy visit at his office in Accra.
Ambassador Madeira congratulated Hon. Dr. Murtala Muhammed on his recent appointment and expressed Brazil’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations with Ghana, particularly in areas related to environmental sustainability and technological advancement.
The two parties engaged in discussions on several strategic areas of cooperation. These included addressing the environmental impact of illegal mining (galamsey), promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, and leveraging smart technologies for agricultural development. They also explored opportunities for collaboration in coastal conservation, afforestation, and climate resilience.
A highlight of the discussion was the Ministry’s forthcoming flagship initiative, “Every Child, per Tree”, which is scheduled to be launched during the 2025 World Environment Day celebrations. The programme aims to instill environmental consciousness in Ghanaian youth by encouraging tree planting in schools and communities.
Minister Murtala Muhammed welcomed the visit and acknowledged Brazil’s ongoing support for Ghana’s development goals. He emphasized the importance of shared learning, innovation, and joint efforts in tackling global environmental challenges.
The visit marked a positive step toward deepening Ghana-Brazil cooperation in the areas of environment, science, and technology, and reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to sustainable development and mutual growth.
