2-Day Stakeholder Engagement for Co-Developing a Research Impact Evaluation Framework Held in Accra
Accra, Ghana – A pivotal 2-day stakeholder engagement event was held from January 28-29, 2025, in Accra, bringing together leading experts and stakeholders from across Ghana’s science and research ecosystem. Under the theme Shaping the Future of Research in Ghana: Crafting a Framework for Impactful Evaluation of Funded Projects, the workshop marked a key step in co-developing a comprehensive framework to evaluate the outcomes and effectiveness of research funding in the country.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology (MEST), through the RSIM Directorate of the SCGI Secretariat, and supported by the African Center for Technology Studies (ACTS). It featured an in-person roundtable workshop that gathered insights from a diverse range of stakeholders within the science and technology sector. The goal was to ensure the developed framework would reflect the varied perspectives of all involved parties and meet the expectations of key stakeholders within the research ecosystem.
The engagement aimed to foster dialogue and collaboration between government agencies, academic institutions, private sector players, development partners, and monitoring and evaluation experts. By bringing together these diverse groups, the workshop sought to craft a robust system for evaluating the impact of funded research projects, enhancing accountability, and ensuring that research investments generated meaningful, sustainable outcomes for Ghana’s development.

The engagement brought together a distinguished group of participants, including:
- Representatives from Government Agencies, including MEST and the RSIM Directorate of the SCGI Secretariat
- Academic and Research Institutions focused on science and technology research
- Private Sector and Industry Stakeholders driving innovation and technology adoption
- International Development Partners supporting research and funding initiatives
- Monitoring and Evaluation Experts experienced in assessing project impacts
- Collaborating Technical Agencies involved in research execution and support
Throughout the workshop, participants worked collaboratively to design practical strategies for the implementation of the evaluation framework. By combining local expertise with international best practices, the event ensured that the framework would be both effective and aligned with Ghana’s long-term development goals.
The outcome of the workshop is expected to significantly strengthen the impact and accountability of research efforts in Ghana, paving the way for future innovations and more sustainable development within the country’s research landscape.
