STI Units

The Unit provides policy leadership in the Ministry’s long-term cross-cutting research, development and innovation initiatives through key programmes and projects. It strives to; Deliver new technology-based industries to the Ghanaian Economy by developing appropriate strategic roadmaps for chosen sectors of the economy. Create the appropriate policy and institutional implementation instruments in order to deliver technology products and services from key sectors of the economy. Develop and implement appropriate policies to promote and protect Intellectual Property Right (IPR).
This Unit strives to develop and implement national programmes to produce knowledge, human capital and associated infrastructure, equipment and public research services to sustain the National System of Innovation. It focuses on the following areas: Human Capital and Science Platforms Emerging Research Areas and Infrastructure Indigenous Knowledge Systems
This unit exists to strategically develop, promote and manage international relations, opportunities and STI agreements that will strengthen the National Systems of Innovation in the country and enable exchange of knowledge capacity and resources between Ghana and its regional and international partners. It’s areas of focus are ; Overseas Bilateral Cooperation Multilateral Cooperation International resources The Unit is also in-charge of mobilizing resources to fund STI Programmes/projects in the sector.
The Unit provide policy, strategies and directions that support R & D led growth in Ghana. The strategies developed is informed by Government’s Micro-economic Reform strategy at any particular time, the National Industrial Policy and generally the National Long-term and Medium-Term development plans. The main objective is to promote growth in the public and private investment in R & D, advancing national growth objectives through sustainable value addition and exploitation of natural resources based on the national goal of job and wealth creation. The main areas of focus in the division involves; Science and Technology for Economic Impact Science and Technology for Social Impact Science and technology for Investment.
